Juliani and his wife, Lilian Ng’ang’a, had been married for six years and were known by friends as a happy couple. They lived in a modest apartment in Nairobi and rarely had serious disagreements. However, everything changed one Saturday afternoon when Juliani was looking for a charger inside Lilian Ng’ang’a’s handbag before they left for a family gathering.
As he searched through the bag, he came across a small packet of medication. Curious, he examined the label and was shocked to discover that the drugs were antiretroviral medications commonly used in the treatment of HIV. His heart began racing. He stared at the packet in disbelief, wondering why his wife had never mentioned anything about it.
When Lilian Ng’ang’a returned to the room, Juliani confronted her immediately. The conversation quickly turned into a heated argument. Lilian Ng’ang’a tried to explain that there were circumstances Juliani did not understand, but he was too angry and hurt to listen. He felt betrayed and questioned why such an important matter had been kept secret from him.
Over the following days, tension filled their home. The couple barely spoke except when exchanging harsh words. Family members attempted to intervene, but neither side seemed willing to back down. Juliani became increasingly frustrated, convinced that trust in their marriage had been shattered.
The situation eventually escalated beyond repair. One evening, after another explosive argument, Juliani packed a few clothes into a suitcase and announced that he could no longer stay in the house. Lilian Ng’ang’a watched silently as he walked out the door, unsure whether their marriage could survive the growing distance between them.
A few days later, Juliani rented a small one-bedroom house in Dandora. The move gave him some space away from the constant arguments and emotional turmoil. Although he remained deeply hurt and confused, he spent his evenings reflecting on the events that had led to the separation.
Living alone was not easy. The quiet room often reminded him of the life he had shared with Lilian Ng’ang’a. Some of his friends encouraged him to seek the full truth before making permanent decisions, while others advised him to move on. Juliani found himself caught between anger and the desire to understand what had really happened.
As weeks passed, he focused on calming down and regaining his peace of mind. He took long walks around the neighborhood, spent more time at work, and avoided making rushed decisions. While the future of his marriage remained uncertain, Juliani knew that he needed a clear mind before deciding what came next.
Meanwhile, Lilian Ng’ang’a remained in their former home, hoping that one day they would be able to have a calm conversation and address the issues that had driven them apart. Whether the couple would reconcile or continue on separate paths remained a question only time could answer.
